I described a Google Sheet to Claude and it built me a fully functional web app…
Let’s rewind.
Do you remember the Wealth Potion Auto-Budget?
I shared the Auto-Budget in a video and a newsletter article a few months ago as a free Google Sheets template. It auto-balances based on the average American household spending, giving you a working budget just by plugging in your income. And then the more data you add, the smarter it gets.
It took me hours of tinkering to get right in Sheets…
Claude Code “one-shot” it in in less than 5 minutes.

This is a .gif preview, the tool itself is fully usable at app.wealthpotion.com
I described the logic of the Auto-Budget in plain English, and minutes later, a working budget tool was live at app.wealthpotion.com.
I want you to think back to the first time you used ChatGPT.
Using Claude Code for the first time felt just like that. It felt like magic.
Today, we’ll cover:
What Claude Code is (and what it does)
What I’m building for you at Wealth Potion
Why we don’t need to worry about the singularity (yet)
How anyone can get started with Claude Code
Let’s dive in.
The Technical Co-Founder Gap
For years (if not decades), the main barrier to building a software product wasn't the idea.
It was the developer. The CTO. The “technical co-founder”.
I still remember when I was in Business School in the 2010s -- many of my classmates had wonderful ideas for tech startups. And they would totally start a company!
If only they could find a developer to write the code.
Unsurprisingly, our friends in the Computer Science department didn’t jump for joy at the opportunity to build someone else’s idea... Especially not the business school folks.
All the while, most people understood Software Engineering as an extremely safe career path. The advice you’d hear in tech circles was the same 3 words, every time:
“Learn to code.”
Is this advice as timeless as it was just a few years ago?

Before AI, if you wanted to build an app, you had two options:
Learn to code (minimum 1–2 years of dedicated learning to reach anything useful, and likely more), or
Hire someone who can code (minimum $100–150k/year, plus equity, plus the risk that they leave to pursue something else)
Why is this important?
Because many entrepreneurial (but non-technical) people have been waiting for the right opportunity to quit their job and start their own business. The code(r) was the only thing holding them back.
Take it from me… I worked for 10+ years in tech telling myself “if only I had the right idea…”. And I met many others that felt the same way.
That barrier to entry is now gone completely.
What Claude Code Actually Is
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
Claude Code is an AI coding agent built by Anthropic, the makers of Claude.
Unlike a chat interface, Claude Code runs directly in your computer’s terminal, reads your actual project files, writes code, runs commands, and iterates.
In other words, it is an AI agent (just like OpenClaw).
This difference is significant: it's not assisting a developer. It is the developer.
You describe what you want in plain English. Claude Code figures out the implementation, writes the code, and flags what's broken.
Found a bug? No worries. Tell Claude Code that there was a bug and it just… goes and fixes it.

This loop is what some people call "vibe coding". Building software by describing what you want, refining it, and shipping it, without needing to understand the underlying syntax.
But “vibe coding” is quickly becoming a misnomer. “Vibe coding” has gotten so good that software engineers at large tech companies are all using Claude Code (or similar AI agents).
Some are even referring to coding by hand as “trad coding” (short for traditional).
To make sure I wasn’t experiencing AI psychosis, I messaged three friends who work as software engineers at large tech companies. Here is what each of them said:
“Claude Code is so goated. I use it all day every day.”
“No one codes. It’s crazyyy. It’s unlocking so many opportunities.”
“You could truly build anything you want.”
I'm not a developer.
And yet, I built the Wealth Potion App with Claude Code.
What I've Built at Wealth Potion
The Wealth Potion app is live with three tools, two of which long-time subscribers are already familiar with. But instead of downloadable Google Sheets templates, they now live as real software:
The Auto-Budget: As mentioned above, this was a complex spreadsheet template with multi-sheet logic and automatic re-balancing. I described it in English and Claude Code “one-shot” it. Claude built the entire thing in a single session. I wrote zero lines of code.

The Financial Freedom Calculator: This one projects your path to financial independence based on your savings rate, expenses, and expected return. Input your numbers, see your timeline. Same build process. I described it to Claude, and it built it in one go. I’m adding more dynamic features to it as we speak.

The Net Worth Dashboard: This one is new. Ever since I graduated college and started saving money, I’ve used a messy Excel spreadsheet to track my net worth. The Net Worth Dashboard gives you a high-level overview of your current net worth, as well as a projection toward your wealth goal.
And yes, they’re available for you to use today! You can sign up and use them now at app.wealthpotion.com for free. The Academy is in progress… more on that soon 😉
The Singularity Isn’t Here Yet
Yes, Claude Code is truly mind-blowing and I recommend everyone to at least try it. But it is not AGI, it is not sentient, and it is not fully autonomous.
Claude Code still needs a CEO. You.
The AI writes the code, but you bring everything else. The vision, the product intuition, the “taste”.
You still need the ability to describe exactly what you want and recognize when it's wrong.
Give Claude Code a vague prompt, and you’ll get a vague result. Give it a precise description of a specific problem (edge cases, possible failure modes, ideal user experience, design preferences) and it works like magic.
Here are some Claude Code tips and tricks if you’re just starting out:
Be as detailed as possible with your prompts. This one is self-explanatory.
Tell Claude Code to interview you. If your prompt is a bit vague, or if there are aspects that you’re not fully sure of yet, Claude will ask you questions to get more clarity, or simply to offer you multiple options that you can choose from.
Tell Claude to use web search. Tools are a huge rabbit hole that could be an entire article all on its own, but web search is a built-in tool that allows Claude to browse the web to get context on best practices, what other apps are doing, and so on.
In short: anyone with enough agency and clarity of vision can now build things that used to require a $150k hire.
Sorry, software engineers. It’s the era of the “Idea Guy” now.
The barrier has moved from technical skill to judgment.
Most products don't fail because the code is bad. They fail because the vision is muddy and the distribution is faulty.
So now, let’s talk about distribution.
Why the Creator Economy Advantage Just Got Bigger
Here's the part that I don’t see enough people talking about.
The mid-curve take on X right now seems to be that content creators are screwed because AI influencers are going to replace the humans.

AI influencers are already going viral. But they won’t last.
I don’t know about you, but the moment I recognize something is AI, I can’t stand to watch it.
When coding becomes a commodity (and it is becoming one, fast) the scarce resource shifts to distribution.
Who can get eyes on the product?
Who has an audience that trusts them enough to try something new?
Who is known to help people solve problems in a particular niche?
Solopreneurs who have spent the last few years building a newsletter, a YouTube channel, or a specific reputation are going to have a structural advantage over people who can code but have no one to tell.
The solopreneur that launches with 10,000 engaged subscribers beats the brilliant developer who launches into silence. Just hop onto Indie Hacker Twitter and you can already see this playing out.
Why do you think I started Wealth Potion?!
This is why the creator economy isn't just about “content creation”. It's distribution. If Claude Code is your CTO, the content creator is the CMO.
Building an audience now is the asymmetric bet. Coding is table stakes. Attention is the moat.
How to Start (If You've Never Written Code)
1. Start with a tool you already use. My Auto-Budget worked because I had built it myself in Sheets first. I knew every edge case. That domain knowledge is what made the description precise enough for a clean first build. Your best first project is something you understand deeply enough to describe in detail. Start small, with something like:
A personal website
An online portfolio
A basic web tool
2. Describe the problem before you describe the solution. "Build me a budget app" is a bad prompt. "I want a tool where a user inputs their monthly income, fixed expenses are subtracted automatically, and the remaining amount is split across categories based on percentages I define", that's a much better prompt. Don’t be afraid to micro-manage your AI -- it is not a human employee.
4. Try shipping something. I’m launching the Wealth Potion app before the Academy is finished. The tools exist, they work, and real users are now telling me what to build next. Over-building before you have any users is the most common mistake in product development, and it's one Claude Code can actually make worse.
5. Learn distribution. Build your audience in parallel. A newsletter, a YouTube channel, a Twitter/X presence -- pick one and become genuinely known in a niche before you expand. The product and the audience compound together symbiotically.
FAQ
Do I need any technical background at all?
No, not to get started. Some familiarity with basic concepts (what is a database, what is an API) helps when you hit more complex problems, but you'll develop that vocabulary naturally as you build. Start with something simple and let the complexity follow.
What kinds of things can I actually build with this?
When in doubt, just try it! You’ll be surprised by what Claude Code can “one-shot”. Web apps, internal tools, automations, data tools, browser extensions, scripts. The Wealth Potion app, which is a multi-tool financial dashboard with user accounts and saved data, was built this way. If it involves code, Claude Code can build it.
What about the stuff I can't build yet?
Complex infrastructure, security-critical systems, novel engineering problems might still need real developers. But the bar for "what I can build without one" has moved dramatically. I set up Wealth Potion’s database, OAuth, and AI-chatbot logic all using Claude Code. I still don’t know how to write in JavaScript, and I probably never will.
Doesn't this mean the “idea” is now worthless i.e. everyone will just copy it?
No, because ideas have always been easy to copy. What's hard to copy is distribution, brand trust, and the specific knowledge of your audience built over time. In other words, execution. The simple formula for building wealth applies to businesses too: build consistently, stay in motion, compound your advantages.
Is this available to everyone or is it expensive?
Claude Code requires an Anthropic subscription, which starts at $20 USD per month. It's not free, but it's a fraction of what a single developer hour costs. Run the comparison yourself.
The Bottom Line
The escape hatch has always existed. Build something, sell it, own your business and your source of income.
What's changed is the cost of entry. The technical barrier that kept most entrepreneurs from building a product without a co-founder has disappeared almost entirely.
What remains: vision, judgment, and distribution. And as much as I can’t stand the term, “taste”.
Those are yours to build and own. Those are your moat.
So, as Marc Andreessen famously said a few years ago…

The Wealth Potion app is live now — the Auto-Budget, Financial Freedom Calculator, and Net Worth Dashboard are free when you sign up at app.wealthpotion.com. The Academy is coming. Don't wait.
To your prosperity,
