#007: Universities are Dying because of the Creator Economy

Universities are dying.
And that’s a good thing.
Because of what is going to replace them.

The education system of the past relied on big, centralized institutions. This is the education system that our parents and our grandparents grew up with. Centralized institutions came with prestige, quality education, and access to like-minded people.
But centralization comes with a downside.

These institutions dictate who gets to learn, what you learn, and how you learn.

Over time, this system has begun to advantage the institution, at the expense of the student.

Now, students and learners can take back control. You can decide who you want to learn from, and with. You can learn about the things that ignite your curiosity on fire. And you can learn however and whenever you please.

The answer is the Creator Economy.

People who have unique skills are now empowered to share their lifetime of learnings on the internet. And anyone who wants to learn, can learn.

The Creator Economy will completely revolutionize education as we know it. And that’s a very good thing.

Here are 3 things you can do:

1. Figure out what you truly care about.

The Creator Economy has empowered people to share content about the things they are passionate about. This means that the selection of topics available to you has grown exponentially.

Finance, coding, sales, ancient history, basket weaving… whatever you want. Explore it.

In video game terms, explore just how vast the “world map” is.

2. Build skills that others are interested in.

Become proficient in one of your interest areas. Embrace being an amateur, and practice your craft until you are intermediate, then an expert.

Choosing a skill that others will also be interested in, will mean that you teach others along the way as well.

In video game terms, start levelling up your skill and talent tree.

Imagine a video game skill tree, but in real life.

3. Teach others as you learn.

You do not need to be an expert to begin creating content and sharing what you know. There will be many people that are 1 or 2 steps behind you that would love to learn from what you’ve learned.

Contribute to the creator economy by creating content that you wish existed when you were learning.

In video game terms, keep levelling up and training others that are lower level than you.

tl;dr the Creator Economy puts you in control of your education, and your destiny. Treat life like a video game and you will be rewarded.

To your prosperity,
